Mt. Washington is a beautiful historic neighborhood in northern Baltimore, about 15 minutes north of the Inner Harbor. An ideal setting for families, Mt Washington offers tree-lined streets, wooded knolls with public gardens, and hills with impressive views of the surrounding areas. Mt Washington is diverse, eclectic and very stable. People from all walks of life and professions are represented — professors, artists, writers, musicians, lawyers, doctors, and business people are counted among our residents. The diverse populace is matched only by the unique architecture of our homes, as 100-year old Victorian homes are located in close proximity to modern-style flats and comfortable cottages. The neighborhood is comprised of approximately 1600 residences surrounded by attractions, natural and man made. To the northwest is Luckman Park a lovely setting in which to play tennis, picnic or walk through the woods. To the southeast, the University of Baltimore Fields include playing fields for lacrosse and rugby, and a golf driving range open to the public. The Mount Washington Village, part of the eastern section of the neighborhood, includes restaurants, salons, clothing stores, specialty shops and a veterinarian. Also in the village is Baltimore Clayworks, a nationally recognized non-profit educational art institution that promotes the exploration of ceramics in the setting of an old library building. Across the Jones Falls from the village is the Mount Washington Mill, an historic mill complex along the Jones Falls reborn as a shopping center including a Whole Foods, Starbucks, Framin Place, Amazing Glaze and Smith & Hawken. Mt Washington boasts two swim clubs: the Mt. Washington Swim Club and Meadowbrook. To the south is the Cylburn Arboretum, which includes specimen trees, well marked nature trails and bird watching. The neighborhood is served by the Light Rail, with service to Camden Yards and BWI Airport, and several bus lines. Major employers in or near Mt Washington include the Johns Hopkins Conference Center, Mt Washington Pediatric Hospital and Sinai Hospital. Mt Washington Elementary School is considered one of the best public schools in the City. In all, Mt Washington and neighborhing Cheswold are very desirable stable and safe places to live.
